Mr. Vayalar Ravi , Minister of Overseas Indian Affairs,is coming to USA on June 27,2006. He is coming to Washington DC on July 4 to meet Indian Ambassador and Indian community. We should try to meet him personally and explain the problems we are facing. He can talk to US counterparts and do something for us.
Let us organize an event to meet him on July 4. Since It is a holiday, lot of people can meet him and chat with him.
Like he will care about us. If he does care, he can not do anything unless he gets OK from Madam Sonia:-)

as gc28262 has indicated, that proper analysis and the correct interpretation of the law is needed to change such matters. Unless, EB3 people come out of the lethargic content/self pity and start working on the issues as if their life depended on it (it does) - just writing to the senators and representatives will not help. The legislative offices is not going to do the analysis (in the time that matters to us) and address it to the USCIS. However, if we do the ground work and then approach them, we may have a better chance of succeeding.
Whenever EB3 asks for writing to senators and congressmen, EB2 folks will discourage, but when Eb2 wants to write to the same group everyone encourages.

got receipt notice dated 6th of june for 140 premium processing and got call from employer on 8th of june evening saying the case has been approved. approved in less than 3 days.

I second...no need to panic....let's start doing what they're doing on the last week of September if we don't get our receipts....just kidding...
I guess a well package application gets the nod for Receipting very fast while poorly package ones may face stricter scrutiny at the mailroom. Another thing, the mailing room is also sorting out applications to be retained at its service center and those that need to be transferred to other service centers.

local chapters....I have been part to two chapters but not seeing any communication happening around. On one chapter last communication is on June 2010 with 170 members and on another chapter last communication is on Dec 2010 with 9 members.
Local chapters need to be as active as IV forum to engage their members to take part actively.

Just so that we are clear, please note that signing online petitions doesn't mean anything if there is no matching advocacy. Timing of the activity is also very important. In the end, advocacy and grassroots effort must compliment each other at the same time. The website you are referring is an advertisement website. Its not a resource for serious advocacy effort.
The Congress is right now focused on DREAM Act. If we just say "Erase Green card backlog", it will mean nothing. But there is a chance if we send specific targeted message asking to include specific provisions in the bill that appear to be moving (i.e. DREAM Act in this case), and IV is complimenting this message with the advocacy on the ground.
Just sending random email from some online advertisement for profit website does not mean anything. We think that some of these websites are just collecting your Email and Home Address, which they could sell for making profit.
Immigration Voice would like to request its all members not to send out random messages from advertisement websites because such messages are out of sink with reality. Please participate in the well defined and targeted 'Action Items' on IV.

Is there premium for I485?
I am not a lawyer but as far as I know there is no Premium for 485. They mentioned they will want to do it at some point in the future but it is not yet available for this application.

I may sound some what negative here but I am not trying to diminish the IV plat form for all the folks here.Yes, it is just "about us" only... what "IV core" did so far is vague....flower campaign and this current FOIA requests started randomly by the individuals thinking collectively.... I have PD of Dec 2005 and I140 approved in June 2006 from TSC. Filed 485 on July 3rd .checks not cashed yet neither received the Receipt notice. Called up and lady checked the system and my 485 app is not in the system. She told me to call around 20th to check the status. What are they cooking ? I am not sure.

Its unfortunate that you ask us to UNITE and use 'EB2 elitist protectionism' in the same breath. I am not even going down the road of EB3 'smarter' than EB2 because a reverse argument is equally valid if not more. The law as stated above is what it is - there is a clear categorizaton established by law. If there is a level of frustration with it then a campaign to change it makes sense. However any proposed changes that arbitrarily assigns visa numbers just because 'my HR filed it the way it got filed' then you need to check with your HR and port over to EB2 - if you think your private US degree qualifies you for it. The position determines EB2 or EB3 and I'll leave it at that.
I have no problems in people expressing their opinion in an open forum and lobbying for change. The devil is in the detail. If the change means taking the EB2 excess visas to give to EB3 purely based on length of wait then I have every right to present another point of view - elitist protectionism or not.
I have only seen implications to this effect but nobody has come forward and said it plainly - yes we are EB3 and we want the EB2 excess visas because we have waited seven years. Everybody seems to imply it but nobody wants to call it as plainly as I stated it above. I am only presenting a counter to that.

No, you are twisting what I said. My point is, if you are not willing to help yourself, why do you expect people who are going to be current in a year or so to chip in? You can start helping yourself by becoming a regular donor to IV. That's $25 a month. Imagine 11,000 odd EB people becoming regular donors. Maybe, IV can then run a regular ad in major news network, explaining our plight.

With or without retrogression someone might get an RFE, get stuck in namecheck etc. Ending retrogression provides earlier PDs better chances of getting GC faster (if dates are 'C' you get it the month you clear RFE, Name check etc.)

Instead you guys can get together and start sending flowers to USCIS director requesting him to publish the complete list of GC applications approved every year. It's the first step in enforcing FIFO. Right now there is no such list and no way of knowing who got their GC out of turn. And while you guys are at it also send some flowers to FBI to clear Namechecks FIFO, to DOL to approve PERM petitions FIFO etc.

I have started similar mission on Murthy but didn't get much attention. I think this is the right place to discuss this.
